nerd nite was AWESOME tonight! first we had The Psychology of Persuasion: World Domination in Four Easy Steps. totally convincing. next was Hypotheses on the Tactics of Naval Warfare in Space. and this guy was just a crazy nerd! and so was the audience. he asked people what the ships and planes on the slides were, and they knew. real or sci fi. lastly we had, Trial by Fire: The DARPA Grand Challenge and the Search for Robust Autonomy and DAMN was that cool. i wish patrick had been there. he would have loved it. awesome video and details about the construction of the machines. fabulous commentary on how all the entries failed the first year and the adjustments they made to compensate. there was even a calculation of how much free labour DARPA got running this contest (for an outlay of about $10M, they got $750M worth of work). really cool nerd nite. so delighted that i get to attend again!
